Although the name is not original the disposition of a Bearded Collie is well known. A Bearded Collie has a heavier build and generous face hair and is also known for a keen mind. Keen minds are a general Collie attribute. Most experts agree that they were bred to be herding dogs because of their agility, their awesome ability to stay focused, and their willingness to please their masters. They are dogs with gentle dispositions and gentle spirits.

A Bearded Collie is a very popular family companion and makes an excellent pet. However, you have to be willing and able to handle such a high-energy animal and must be willing and committed to frequent, at least weekly, brushings to keep such beautiful long hair from matting up. There is the option to keep you friend clipped, which helps with the frequency of brushings but does not eliminate the need to brush.

Having been brought up on a farm that required caring for a flock of sheep also sheds light on the need to be fleet of foot.
